    The Old Harbour clings to the cliffs in front of the town centre and is the hub of Hermanus. You'll find three museums here: the Old Harbour MuseumWhale House Museum and Photographic Museum. There’s a permanent craft market in the square as well.


  • Cliff Path

    The Hermanus cliff path hugs the coastline and offers a 12km path for walkers and hikers alike. Start near the new harbour and enjoy a visual journey along the beautiful rugged coastline to Grotto beach, this path offers many benches to sit and watch the whales or to enjoy ocean views. The entire cliff path is protected within the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, proclaimed in 2000, in a bid to protect the fragile ecosystem alongside Walker Bay.

  • Hoy's Koppie / Hoy's Hill

    Residents and visitors to Hermanus have long enjoyed walking the paths on Hoy’s Koppie and recent improvements to the paths by the Cliff Path Management Group and the Municipality have made the outing even more enjoyable. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Hermanus, the Fernkloof Mountains and Walker Bay from various points along the paths, through the best view still remains form the top of the Koppie. 

  • Hermanus Golf Course

    Hermanus Golf Club is perfectly set on the slopes of the Overberg with breathtaking views of the bay. The course is a spectacular 27 holes. The course is set around a restored wetland, which provides for beautiful fynbos and of course abundant bird life. Hermanus Golf club is a fantastic experience for golfers of all levels and the natural beauty and well manicured course will create a special golf memory.

  • New Harbour

    Hermanus New Harbour, Westcliff Road, Hermanus, South Africa .

    Hermanus New Harbour lies west of town, alongside the township Zwelihle and close to the western end of Westcliff Road. The New Harbour is a 'small fishing harbour', but during the whale season boat-based whale charter companies run from the quayside, creating a lively atmosphere of people excited about coming face to face with a Southern Right Whale. The New Harbour also offers a restaurant and a bar.

  • Hermanus Country Market

    The Hermanus Country Market is open every Saturday and offers a variety of organic produce, herbs, pickles, jams, deli-treats and home-grown goods, as well as several stalls for wines, furnishing and trinkets. This vibrant market is a hub of activity within a relaxed rural atmosphere, and has become one of the most popular weekly market venues in the country.

  • Fernkloof Nature Reserve

    The Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers hikers the opportunity to learn as they walk, with a cornucopia of endemic plant and wildlife being spotted along every trail. The paths also offer their own unique experiences, with each one leading into a different part of the reserve, including the Three Dams, the waterfall and also to the highest outlook point (596 meters above sea level) at Galpin Hut (which can be booked for an overnight stay).

  • Grotto Beach

    The Blue Flag Grotto Beach is well known for its massive stretch of stunning sandy beach and ocean. It is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike and boasts a view of the mountainous areas behind whilst still having a seemingly unending view of the beach. This beach is perfect for swimming, suntanning, games and long, leisurely walks and with ample parking it is the ideal holiday point for many.

    The beach itself stretches for almost 18 km, making the walk an exercise but an enjoyable one.
